The Bourbonic Tower
The Tower was built between 1556 and 1734 on the ruins of an ancient building of Roman era. During this long period of time, the fortified building was rebuilt by Pope Sixtus IV, with the aim of setting up a structure to defend the island from pirate attacks and later expanded and further strengthened by the will of Bourbon dynasty. To this period dates the construction of the fourth floor and the construction of a cistern to collect rainwater. The cistern had a central entrance, located 4 meters below the level of the road.
