The Pontine plain is also famous for its sweet flavors and genuine cakes like “casatiello” and the so – called “zeppole of St. Joseph”. The Casatiello of Ponza is not the typical rustic Neapolitan casatiello that we all know prepared with salami, boiled eggs, cracklings, cheese and pepper but it is a delicious dessert that is enjoyed both between meals, accompanied by cheese and fresh beans, and breakfast.
